Doo Dah Parade

The rest of the world knows about the prestigious Rose Parade, but the Doo Dah Parade is a great local party -- and so much more my speed. Where else can you watch the Men of Leisure's Synchronized Napping squad fluff their pillows alongside a solemn march of Amnesty International? (And all while planes fly in formation above?) Find out more about the Doo Dah Parade here and read a news story about it here. (And take a look at more of my photos in the animated montage below.)

You must have gotten there early to have such a good spot. I was at a nearby restaurant of all things, and had to really fend for a spot when I came out at 11:30. Next time I'll know better!

That is great. I knew nothing of a Doo Dah Parade. I'm off to study it's history.

All these fun photos and one ironic shot of the sky, with street lights bending over the festivities as if watching them... and the chemtrail dropping happy gas on the onlookers!

I love your lines, visual and verbal!

At our Doo Dah Day parade everyone brings their dogs all dressed up. Is that normal or have we gone off the deep end down here????

Wow, even the stoners got it together to participate, eh?

Stoner #1: Duuude - Doo dah!
Stoner #2: Doo dah? DUUUDE!

And a parade entry was born. ;o)

I'm glad you got some shots, Laurie. I got nuttin! Just couldn't get close enough.

I don't think you've gone off the deep end any more than we have, Virginia. There were plenty of dressy dogs.

Looks like you were right across the street from us!! I was woundering who that woman was - she looks like she might be part of the parade!

Kisses to all who made the trek to DooDah to watch and snap,
to not find a good spot,
but oh well.
Your good energy was present and merged with all the good energy of the parade.

Love your photos, Laurie. They are especially wonderful to blow up big--I am impressed by the resolution.

Mighty powerful resolution.

I've got some demented video I'll post as soon as my hangover lifts.

Stepping in to say, I was very lucky to get a good spot. We were late getting there, walked down from the train station right as the parade started, and managed to snag a position on the corner, next to a wall. (I'm always grateful for being tall on parade days! I just wore my high heeled boots and, voila, I loomed above everyone else's head! My little girl had an even better view perched on Daddy's shoulders.)

The photos were great fun, especially the one with the saxophone player marching in front of the Vive Restaurant & Bar.

She reminded me of someone who could have made the journey all the way from the Peruvian Andes to the Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena, California!
